Sheila comes from a unique, highly educated and resilient foundation. Her drive, motivation and passion for Social Work and the Law inspires others, giving them the edge to aspire to their own true potential. At a young age, she overcame a myriad of personal challenges and now prospers in every venture she partakes. She brings her life experience and advanced knowledge to individuals and organizations she touches along the way.

Ms. Wilkinson graduated from University of New Orleans with a BA in Sociology, minoring in Women’s Studies. From there, she went on to Tulane, where she earned a Master’s in Social Work. After surviving the perils of Katrina in 2005, she returned to New Orleans intent on being a more active participant in our community. Her diverse interests led her to Loyola’s College of Law, where she graduated in the Spring of 2009. While at Loyola, she traveled abroad on three separate occasions and earned an International Legal Studies Certificate. She is currently in private practice, after serving as the Project & Litigation Manager of a local law firm for almost 10 years.

Ms. Wilkinson’s long term goals include working closely with the European Union to advance international relations, social welfare and education on a global front, while her passion for human rights encourages her to propel towards work within the European Court of Human Rights. She intends to study French and German, and to complete an LLM program abroad studying European Union Law.

She is a native Louisianian and a proud Member of the United Houma Nation.

Hilary Wallis is a fine art painter who uses the power of the arts as a means by which to visually educate the public and generate awareness of societal issues focused around community development and social activism. In addition to painting, she photographs people and places from her travels, develops art therapy programs and workshops, creates curriculum that promotes international education and films/edits short documentaries.

Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Telecommunications from the University of Florida in 2001, Hilary promptly relocated oversees to immerse herself in the European art world. Combining her journalistic background with her skill as a painter and photographer, Hilary has proved herself to be a powerful storyteller of both hardship and hope.

The culmination of her experiences traveling in nearly seventy countries, she created the Empowerment Through Art program in Uganda in 2006, with the goal of providing artistic services to members of vulnerable communities as a means of education, psycho-social care, disseminating vital public health information and enriching social and emotional development. By engaging these communities, Empowerment Through Art promoted awareness and inspired advocacy by allowing community members to share their stories with others. Organizing a touring exhibition of Ugandan artwork in the United States and Europe, Hilary also authored the system’s program manual, educational materials for U.S. schools and produced a documentary telling the Empowerment Through Art story.

A veteran of both solo and group exhibitions with her own work throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, Hilary has worked as a consultant for such organizations as Plan, CARE, the International Rescue Committee, Americans for Informed Democracy, InterAction, the Global Campaign for Education, the National Conference for Community and Justice, Think Impact and the South Africa-based Buffelshoek Trust. She has also served as a photographer for the Inter-Press Service in Ethiopia and assisted in developing an arts and culture magazine in Florida. Hilary currently focuses on painting for her ‘Art for Humanity’ series while serving as Artfully AWARE’s Executive Director.
